A perfect Saturday in Paris’s 14th arrondissement

Though the 14th arrondissement in Paris is famous for its nightlife, it also abounds in cultural sites, restaurants and special places to discover. If you are passing through the area or staying in an apartment near Montparnasse, we have prepared a short program of visits to enjoy a great Saturday. So, if you are looking for ideas for your weekend in Paris, feel free to follow some of these suggestions!

Neighborhoods rich in cultural sites that are open on Saturdays

To start off the day on the right foot, begin with a tour of the market. You can choose from the market in Place Constantin Brancusi, which specializes in organic foods, or wanders around the Edgar-Quinet market, located along the boulevard of the same name. After exploring the market traders’ stalls and falling temptation to their tasty produce, take a shopping break in the boutiques of the arrondissement. Alternatively, opt for a cultural stroll. In the 14th, there are many sites worth visiting as a family, among friends, or with your partner. You can also descend into the famous Paris Catacombs, which make for an unforgettable visit. If you are a fan of contemporary art, the Fondation Cartier will welcome you to view its original art exhibitions. Following your stroll through the quarters of the 14th, make a stop to visit the famous Montparnasse cemetery or to admire the architecture and stained glass windows of its churches and chapels. The first morning of your weekend will be full, but rich in discoveries.

Take a pause in one of the restaurants and parks of the 14th

After wandering the streets of the arrondissement, a break to refuel will be in order. On Saturday lunchtime in the 14th, there is a huge variety to choose from: a brasserie, a takeaway from a delicatessen, a sandwich from a bakery, or book a table at a restaurant. The World or traditional French cuisine, bistro-style, crêperie, or award-winning eateries: it is up to you to decide what takes your fancy! In short, in this corner of Paris, there is no shortage of eating options. Whatever your budget, you will find the ideal restaurant for a delicious lunch break. Then, after eating, you can enjoy the sun in the peace of the Montsouris park or the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris. Another restful spot is the Serment-de-Koufra Square, by the Porte d’Orléans.

If you are still up for more fun, however, seek out one of the arrondissement’s theaters or cinemas. There are shows on all year round, weekends included. You can choose between a play, an exhibition, or a film in one of the quarter’s cinemas. Finally, to end the day on a high note, head for a bar to enjoy a drink with friends. And when evening falls, dinner at a restaurant makes the perfect finale to your Saturday!
