Paris Design Attitude – Andrée Putman: Beaubourg

Paris Design Attitude Paris Putman Beaubourg | Paris Attitude[neema-design créatrice d’intérieurs] proposes a theme around Andrée Putman and Pompidou Centre aka Beaubourg.

Andrée Putman: interior designer, born 23 December 1925; died 19 January 2013. Andrée Aynard was born and grew up in Paris. In 1958, she married Jacques Putman, a collector and critic with a deep knowledge of modernism. She was known for the pieces of French modernist furniture of the 1930s she rescued from flea markets, and that she sold through her company, Ecart (1978). Then, she was then commissioned by Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld to design shop interiors of modern luxury. Her work is timeless, including the first boutique hotel, Morgans, in New York (1984), and the Guerlain flagship store in Paris (2005).

Pompidou Centre The Centre was designed by Italian and British architects. It was built in the 1970s and it opened in 1977. The functional structural elements of the Centre were colour-coded: green pipes are plumbing, blue ducts are for climate control, electrical wires are encased in yellow, and circulation elements and devices for safety are red. In 2007, the Pritzker jury said the Pompidou “revolutionized museums, transforming what had once been elite monuments into popular places of social and cultural exchange, woven into the heart of the city”.
