That’s right, it’s that time of year again folks – the season when the banks of the Seine become a hive of beach-side activity and tourists and locals alike flock to the riverside to enjoy Paris’ answer to a day at the beach! Paris Plages 2015 will officially kick off on 20 July, and until 20 August you’ll be able sunbathe on the tonnes of sand shipped in every year to create beaches along the riverbanks.
There’ll be the usual sun parasols, bars, cafés and cooling mist-showers but this year will also have a whole host of events to tempt you! You’ll have the chance to play pétanque like a true local, chill out with a little Tai Chi or check out one of the live music performances which take place every year in association with that palace of gadgetry: FNAC. Concerts take place just in front of the Hôtel de Ville and are free of charge.
Stretching over three kilometres along the banks of the Seine, you’ll find three major beach areas between Pont Neuf and Pont de Sully. For the chance to get out onto the water, head to Le Bassin de la Villette where you’ll find yet another extensive “beach” complex – you can spend an hour or two on a pedalo or explore the waterside in a kayak before topping up your tan on the sandy waterside.
